I was fortunate to record a bass track on Blueground Undergrass’s 2006 album Faces. This is a star studded record that included Matthew Williams, David Blackmon, Rev. Jeff Mosier, Col. Bruce Hampton, Francisco Fattarusso, Matt Cowley, Neil Fountain and Jimmy Herring.
I did about a year and a half of touring with the group from 2005-2006. We played all over the South East, through the Mid-West and up the East Coast. This was a serious step up from the West Georgia College gigs of the previous few years. I am grateful to have seen the Country and experienced true Musician life.
I recall laying down this track as being an easy and casual experience. I drove to (somewhere near Decatur?) and met up with songwriter Matthew Williams, bandleader Jeff Mosier and album producer Ben Holst. We listened to the track a few times, and I recorded about 3 takes direct with my Fender jazz bass. Ben spliced together the best passages from all takes and you can hear the results below.
