Here is a retconned release from 2006. I released Gamma Ray Burst around the same time we were working on the Thunder Monkey album, and amidst touring with Blueground Undergrass. It was also about a year after I picked up my first digital keyboard, so stylistically it was all about having fun with layers, presets
Every gig had been orchestrated strictly through a combination of careful listening and fearlessness. Both Matthew and Steve offered originals in addition to covers by Neil Young, Ween, Primus, The Jayhawks and anything else we could teach each other on the fly.
Var was released with about 25 hand made copies in 2002. I recorded all of the music alone on a BOSS Digital recorder. A majority of the album focuses on short upbeat sunny folk pop. I was really enamored with Guided by Voices at the time and wanted to release a flood of home recordings like Bob Pollard. Var was one of ten releases between 2002-2010.
