This unique site was created in collaboration with conceptual artist Annie Saunders and the production group Octopus Theatricals. My part of the project was to create a site framework to house the guided animations created by Open Ended Group. I worked closely to refine the credits listed on the About page as well as the sections of the Help page. I created an illustration of the park and added elements to show landmarks and site routes. The help page included anchors that connected to different sub-sections as well as a step-by-step that connected to Google Maps to give the user orientation.
I also installed plugins to allow language translations from English to Greek and worked with the artists to incorporate custom fonts on the site. This was also an exciting time zone challenge as collaborators worked together on-site in Athens, Greece, as well as in Chicago/Madison and New York City.
See the description below for more details.
Created site-specifically for Pedion tou Areos, Kormós is a series of time-and-location-based sound walks though the park, accessed via a custom platform, on your personal mobile device and headphones. The piece immerses participants using binaural environmental recordings, sound design, and original composition. Each unique walk is based on an individual conversation, recorded in the park, on themes of corporeal experience, physical memory, the sensory world, public and private space, the circularity of recorded time, and the core issues these present and represent. Presented by the Onassis Foundation, Kormós was created collaboratively by Annie Saunders, Andrew Schneider, Emma O’Halloran and OpenEndedGroup, produced by Octopus Theatricals, and includes the voices of Alexandra Kazazou, Yorgos Karamalegos, and Konstantinos Prepis.
The walking tour extended through July 2022. The site is currently inactive.
