Perfectly Strange is the third of 12 tracks to be released in 2024. Many of these releases will feature unique collaborations and will later be compiled on a wider full-length streaming release in 2025.
This track features Ken Henslee on ambiance and production. I worked with Ken years ago in Athens, Georgia when he assisted in recording the Nice Machine’s Science is Real album. That experience was full of laughs and fearless experimentation, so continuing collaboration with Ken was easy and fun.
I recorded a voice memo demo with acoustic and voice parts over a year ago and made several attempts to recreate it in a multi-track setting but with no success. So, I offered the original voice demo to Ken and asked for some ambiance to float underneath this track. He created a wonderful blend of (maybe) synths, guitar, and theremin and sent this to me as a stand-alone preceding the track where it sits underneath. I enjoyed the ambiance as a prelude and asked Ken if I could use it that way.
The final result is one that I enjoy deeply and I feel it sums up the essence of 50 years of reflecting upon creativity and accepting personal strangeness.
