I was again honored to have a track appear on the Watt from Pedro show! This time Watt featured my 2021 track Working Title. This song is a dada-flavored track about intending, but failing to write a song. It is the first song I created completely on the iPad.

I am again honored to get airplay on the Watt from Pedro show. This time appearing on the October 16th edition in the form of the 2002 track Funky Train. This is an amusing choice for Mr. Watt to have selected because at the time it was my most blatant Mike Watt homage. The low D modality inspired by Contemplating the Engine Room, and the vocal phrasing in the verses owe a lot to Watt’s poet pirate singing style. This track features Matthew Williams and Joey Dye from Dysfunktion Junktion and was recorded by Michael Butler in 2002.

I am blown away by a double play on this episode of the Watt from Pedro Show! This time Mr. Watt features two more song-oriented tracks. The Truth about Me from 2006’s GONE EP, and Fresh State of Mind from 2005’s Balancing Act. These tracks feature friend’s Matthew Williams, Michael Butler, Walt Entrekin and Jason McPanko. As usual the entire TWFPS is loaded with great music from top to bottom and warrants a full listen.

Mr. Watt was kind enough to spin my 2004 track Jumprope Posse during his August 19th edition of the Watt from Pedro show. This track has always been a favorite of mine and was originally released on an album called Monkey Stuffed with Catfish. It also appeared on a sampler in the Mid 00’s. This song shows my love and kinship of Syd Barrett.

I am very excited to share that a recent track from the Count Ribula series was aired on the Watt from Pedro Show.
My song Chapter 11: Flight Over the Red Sea appears around 42 minutes. However, if you are unfamiliar with this show please hang around for the whole 3 hours. It has Deerhoof, John Coltrane and so much more! A diverse, old school radio show that is a treasure even outside Watt’s contributions as a bass man.
This is part of a larger project ongoing at Bandcamp from my experimental group the All-Star Horse Meat Band.

Anyone who knows me well understands how monumental this is as a massive Mike Watt fan. I also have to laugh at how simple the whole thing went down. I thought it would be nice to record a really econo instrumental and blazed though composing and recording in about 23 minutes. I released in on June 11th and it’s on the Watt show June 15th. Weird!
I first saw Watt on the Ballhog or Tugboat Tour in 1995. This band featured Dave Grohl, Eddie Vedder, William Goldsmith, Pat Smear and Watt. I remember wind off the bass cabinets pushing me away during Big Train. The whole set was nuts ending with Watt playing a song with solo bass at the end and punctuating the set by banging the guitar into his head. I also remember slipping on the stairs coming down after the gig and being caught by R.E.M’s Mike Mills (not being low key in his Green Nudie suit from the Monster era). I saw him again at the same venue a year later during an Atlanta.
It seems like I saw the Engine Room tour 4 times in 1998 between Athens and Atlanta. Both lineups, one with Nels Cline the other Joe Baiza. Both stellar interpretations of the heaviest Watt record.
I’ve been a Watt fan through 20 bands, 2 major relationships, Fatherhood, and beyond. Living econo has made more and more sense as time moves on, so I am grateful to have picked that value up from him as well.

Watt play’s the Nice Machine on this episode. I am pretty sure Chris Vanderford and myself passed off a CD of our then recent album Terrordactyl Face at his Atlanta stop on the Hyphenated Man tour. Watt plays the track Cop Rex on this special 10th Anniversary episode.
Here’s some footage from the Hyphenated Man tour in 2011.

Here is the first time Watt played one of my projects on his radio show. I gave him a CD of what was at the time being called Son of Handpuppet at the Georgia performance of Second Man’s Middle Stand tour. He played the track West Georgia Monkey that Summer on TWFPS. This track features Jason McPanko, Matthew Williams and Joey Dye.
