Dig it Up

I saw Shea Henry play with a local Madison, WI jazz combo called Les Cordes en Blue and was instantly taken by their musicianship and emotive playing. I made a mental note that this would be a great person to collaborate with. Shea has a great following on YouTube and Spotify with a host of expertly played Video game and TV themes.

I started writing songs for my latest project in early 2023 and knew that I wanted it to be an exercise in internet collaborations. This song Dig it Up stemmed from an experiment with writing a song that never goes to the tonic. In this case, D Harmonic minor. So, I formed verses around the 4 and 5 chords and made the chorus revolve around the 6 and 7 chords. The words arose from my earliest career aspiration of archaeology, except with the slight modification that it now related to uncovering musical artifacts.

I reached out to Shea because I felt the violin would offer some nice sustaining notes to make the song less empty. They responded quickly and turned out an astonishing track in record time. I was so excited upon receiving the track that I had to preview a clip for some of my closest musician friends. They all had a similar reaction to me… wow!
I am deeply grateful for the talent Shea brought to this track and encourage you to follow them on the links below.
