Song of the Day is the fourth of 12 tracks to be released in 2024. Many of these releases will feature unique collaborations and will later be compiled on a wider full-length streaming release in 2025.
This track features John Dees, an old friend from High School and early College. I had this track in progress throughout 2023 and tried to find a good collaborator to add a new dimension to it. John had posted some nice Youtube clips of him playing along with some classic guitar tracks. This song had a 60’s feeling to it, so I offered him a chance to work on it.
His first take was cleaner and maybe a little jazzier. I liked it, but knew we could saturate it into something a little trippier. John’s second take was exactly that! His playing added a nice counter to the steady flow of words and complemented the psychedelic rhythms well.
I was surprised once we completed the recording to discover that John had never collaborated with anyone before. No high school band, college open mics, or anything.
So on that level, I am honored that he took up my challenge.
